NADA YOGA MEDITATIONS  –  FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

There are over 15 million visually impaired people in India. This challenge not only presents its own sets of lifestyle limitations to those affected but may also adversely effect the mental health and well-being of the impaired. With that in mind, the Nada Yoga Foundation’s workshop for the visually impaired uses a combination of body movements, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques which when paired with specific music and frequencies help the blind to express joy and experience themselves in a whole new way.

Various studies show that the visually-impaired are more sensitive to sound. Their brains are rewired to allow their visual cortex to improve their ability to process auditory information. By using their visual cortex, the blind are better than the sighted at extracting more spatial information from sounds. Through the use of sound and subtle vibrations and frequencies, Nada Yoga helps us journey inwards and to connect with our own subtle dimensions. Through a sustained practice, one is able to listen to their inner sounds which aid relaxation, concentration and help us connect better to ourselves and the present moment. This experience is enhanced for the visually-impaired with their unique sensitivity to sound stimuli. Hence the workshops and the collective participation truly gives them a way to relax and and experience deep awareness and joy.
